PEELERS

INNOVATION

Over the course of six months, I led the redesign of a peeler as part of a 3-person team tasked with reinventing this often-overlooked kitchen essential. While the project was collaborative, all final design concepts presented were my own contributions.

The scope included leading roles in user research, market analysis, contextual field studies, rapid sketch ideation, client presentations, 3D modeling, direct manufacturer communication, and on-site factory visits. We were given three months of creative freedom to push the category forward—resulting in a wide range of concepts from refined takes on timeless staples to entirely new solutions built around emerging user needs and manufacturing constraints.

Research uncovered the surprisingly complex world of peeling—hard skins, soft skins, fruits, vegetables, root produce—and helped us design tools that addressed specific prep scenarios. The project also explored point-of-purchase strategies, competitive audits, and production methods suited for both mass and premium retail segments.

Unlike typical projects limited by time or budget, this was a rare opportunity to engage in a complete A-to-Z industrial design process. It remains one of my most rewarding and successful studio projects to date. The final presentation included 23 original concepts—12 of which went on to production and hit store shelves.
